Your Mobile Car Wash Business Plan
|
If you have made it this far in the startup guide, you are obviously serious (and excited) about getting your mobile car wash and detailing business started. The next very important step in the startup process is to prepare your business plan.
A business plan doesn't have to be a lengthy document. In fact, for your mobile car wash business, it really only needs to be a few pages. The purpose of the business plan is to force you to sit down and think through the major areas of your business.
It's relatively easy to sit back and think about your business. But it isn't until you put pen to paper that you really start to flush out some of the serious details of how you are going to profit in your mobile car care business.

The purpose of this section is to provide you with the knowledge of how to prepare your business plan. We don't include fluff here - just the basics you need to consider before you get started in your business.
The most important first-step in your business planning is to do a feasibility study. Essentially, your feasibility study will help you understand if you can make a profit and sustain your mobile car wash and detailing business for the foreseeable future. Many people skip this step (and business planning altogether) and the results are disastrous!
We've run into far too many budding small business owners who have such confidence in their ideas that they see no reason to explore the feasibility of their business concepts. All too often, this confidence is short-lived after they realize that many of their initial assumptions are incorrect and most of their startup capital is now gone. Completing a quick feasibility study will help you identify the opportunities in your local markets and perhaps refine some of your initial ideas.
Once you have a reasonable level of confidence that your business concept will turn a profit, you are ready to dive into the business plan. Actually, with your feasibility study behind you, you will probably breeze through this process. The major sections of your business plan will include::
Company Overview – How is your company going to be structured? What sort of entity will you choose (for example, Sole Proprietor or Limited Liability)? Who will be the owners of the company? Since this is a startup, this section will also include a summary of your startup activities and timeline.
Your Services – What is the exact nature of the services you are going to provide? Will your business offer mobile car washing only or will you also offer detailing services? Are you going to add optional services such as mobile oil changes?
Your Market – Who are you going to sell to? Will you target your mobile car washes to residential clients? Perhaps you want to focus on offering your services at local office parks. How will you market your business to your customers?
Business Landscape – What is the current environment for mobile car wash and detailing businesses? Are there local regulations that may impact your operations? What types of competition are you likely to face now, as well as in the immediate future?
Sales Strategy – How will you price your services? What kind of customer demand do you anticipate? What are your ongoing expenses? Based on the answers to these questions, how much do you plan to make? What factors may impact your sales forecast and how will you address these? What are your break-even scenarios?
Startup Costs – How much will it cost to start you business? Are you going to fund your business yourself? If not, where will you go to attract outside investors or funding?
Cash Flow Analysis - Take a look at your projected income and expenses over a period of time. Is your business struggling to stay afloat each month or are you building a healthy cash balance from your operations. Your cash flow analysis will help you answer these questions.
