Mobile Car Wash Industry Outlook
|
As we close out this guide we would like to provide some of our own perspective in terms of where we feel the mobile car wash and detailing industry is headed.
We feel quite confident that people will continue to burn the candle at both ends and will have less and less time to spend on routine household maintenance activities such as washing and detailing their cars and trucks. We also feel quite strongly that automobiles will continue to be a passion for people and because of this passion, car owners will want to keep their cars looking new.

We don’t believe that mobile car washing or detailing will overtake full-service or self-service car washes. However, mobile car washing and detailing occupies a very specific niche market that will continue to grow. The amount of growth is dependent on service technology, supportive environmental regulations, and customer awareness. While we don’t believe that a mobile car wash franchise will reach Fortune 500 status, we do feel quite confident that mobile car wash entrepreneurs can consistently succeed in their financial goals with this business.
As environment concerns become more and more prevalent, we need to keep our eyes open for regulations that may restrict how we conduct our mobile car wash and detailing services. The use of certain chemicals that exist in your cleaning liquids, waxes, polishing compounds and dressings may be restricted due to the potential for water runoff pollution. If your business operates in a location that is free of any current environmental restrictions, you should certainly develop a contingency plan for how you will deliver your services in the event of regulation.
Another environmental concern to keep a persistent eye on is water usage regulation. These types of regulations are typically short-lived due to droughts. Nonetheless, as a business owner you must be prepared with a plan of action for what you will do in the event of water usage governance.
In our opinion, nothing substitutes soap and water for the best wash possible. However there are several waterless wash products on the market that may be of interest to you.
Our advice to anyone just getting started in this business is to develop separate marketing strategies for residential and commercial customers. Your most lucrative contracts will be with business parks or other commercial clients. These contracts are difficult to find so you must also be in a position to market and deliver your services to your residential clients.
In closing, we feel quite strongly that there is, and will continue to be, supportive demand for mobile car wash and detailing services. As a mobile car wash and detailing business owner, your constant challenge will be to find customers who are willing to pay premiums for the ultimate level of car care convenience.
